The output indicators of GLOBIO are Mean Species Abundance (MSA) and Ecosystem extent.
MSA can be considered an application of the CBD indicator 'trends in abundance and distribution of selected species'. Ecosystem extent can be considered an application of the CBD indicator 'trends in extent of selected biomes, ecosystems, and habitats'.
We emphasize that MSA and Ecosystem extent do not completely cover the complex biodiversity concept. The use of other indicators, as proposed in the CBD set of biodiversity indicators for the 2010 target, may emphasize other aspects of biodiversity loss.
For example a Red List Indicator (or other indicators sensitive to uniqueness) will probably show stronger effects of policy response options on protected areas. This is because protected areas are often specifically designed for threatened or unique species or ecosystems.
