The cause-effect relationships in GLOBIO are based on a limited set of peer-reviewed studies. Being a compilation of existing knowledge, the set of studies is not entirely representative. Biomes and species groups are not all covered equally well.
Another aspect of the cause-effect relationships is the way they are constructed. For the current version of GLOBIO we used meta-analysis of published datasets. As an alternative method, relationships can be based on habitat suitability and sensitivity of individual species. This method is applied in the BIOSCORE project.
